Let's take a look at the Duo in more detail now. The Mountain Buggy Duo is built tough to hold a combined 110 pounds. Its seats are quite roomy with 20 inch seat backs and a full 24 inches from the bottom of the seat to the top of the canopy so even larger children can fit without worrying about hitting their heads.
The Mountain Buggy Duo has the wonderful safety buckle that is easy for parents but hard for kids to get undone, which keeps the child in the seat. The buckle has two red buttons that need to be pressed while squeezing the buckle release snaps, in order for the buckle to open.
The seat positions can be independently adjusted so each child can sit how they like, from fully reclined to straight upright. Even though it would have been nice for a one-handed bar for seat adjustment, the strap system on the Mountain Buggy strollers works pretty well. Just loosen the straps to lay the seat back, then shorten them to lift and hold the seat up. It's a little difficult to lift the seat back up with a child in because his weight tends to push the seat back down. The extra fabric also bunches up around the child when lifting it back up which requires you to tuck it behind the seat back as you lift it. It's just a bit too cumbersome.
The seats also have a removable baby bumper guard and a non-adjustable foot rest. There are 2 independent canopies as well, so one can be in the sun while the other is covered. They're not the largest canopies on the market, but the nice flip out sun visor gives you an additional 8 inches of UV protection for your child, which actually makes the canopies pretty large. Each canopy has its own peek-a-boo window that allows you to keep an eye on your children in the seat.
Like other Mountain Buggy strollers, the adjustable handle bar makes it nice for parents of different heights to push the stroller. Or even younger siblings that what to help out. You can run with the Duo because it comes with a runaway strap. If the stroller gets away from you, it's still attached to your arm.
Even though there is no upper parent tray or cup holder, this stroller is stocked with storage. To begin with, it has a nice water bottle holder on the side that fits a standard-sized water bottle. On the bottom is a very large basket that fits a very large diaper bag without any problem, plus extra baby essentials. There are even mesh pockets on the inside and outside to keep smaller items from rolling around. In addition to those there is a zippered storage pocket to hold things like keys, wallet, cell phone etc.
The 12 inch, air-filled tires on the Mountain Buggy Duo are rugged. They are going to handle all terrain wonderfully. The front wheels swivel 360 degrees but can also be easily locked so you can run with the stroller or if you just want the stroller to handle better on rougher terrain. The release break snaps down in the back and locks both back wheels, and is simple to release or flip up with just your foot.
The other features that extend the usefulness of the Duo include the ability to transform it into a pram or attach a car seat. You can even use a double carrycot for your twins if you would like them to snuggle up to each other. The seats have to be completely removed to add the carrycots, but the stroller can still be folded up with the carrycots attached.
The maneuverability on the Duo is fabulous. Even with two large children in the seats it can be pushed one handed and just glides along. The air-filed tires and the suspension system, give it such a smooth ride, that even on rough or slippery terrain, it handles like a champ. The Mountain Buggy Duo's maneuverability is definitely one of the best of any side-by-side double strollers.
The stroller is big, it's heavy and it's bulky. It weighs 36 pounds. So it's going to be a bit of a challenge to get it in and out of your trunk. But that's what you get with an extremely sturdy, double stroller that's built to hold 110 pounds of children and baby products. If you need to make it a more compact package, you can remove the rear wheels easily. The front wheels can come off as well, but they need to be completely unscrewed which isn't quite as convenient or fast.
The Mountain Buggy Duo may seem expensive, but the quality and durability is what you're paying for. During the time you have the Duo, you could easily end up buying two or three regular strollers. And because of the maneuverability, single-buggy feel and all the other little conveniences, this double stroller will pay for itself in no time.
