How to Load XP on a Dell 4600
- 1). Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the Dell 4600's CD drive. Restart the computer by holding down the Dell power button on the front of the computer.
- 2). Press any key when asked to do so in order to boot from the CD. The Windows XP installation screen will appear. If the old operating system starts to load, restart your computer (again) and be sure to press any key more quickly.
- 3). Follow the on-screen instructions to start the installation. Accept the license agreement when prompted. If you do not accept the agreement, you will be unable to install Windows XP.
- 4). Select the drive on which to install the Windows XP operating system. If you are planning on do a clean installation, highlight the current "C:" partition and press "D" and "L." This will completely erase the hard drive. Press "C" to create a new partition (use the NTFS file system) from the unallocated space.
- 5). Continue to follow the on-screen installation prompts. Enter the XP product key when prompted (this can be found on the back or side of the Dell Dimension 4600 PC). Enter your time zone, configure your Internet settings and enter a name for your computer. Once the installation completes, the computer will restart.
- 6). Remove the installation CD and the Dell 4600 will boot with the freshly installed Windows XP operating system.
