    Making the Channels

    • 1). Apply glue to the lengthwise edge of a 3/4-by-3/4-by-78-inch channel-back.

    • 2). Set the channel-back on your work surface with the glued edge facing left or right.

    • 3). Set the edge of a 3/4-by-2-by-78-inch channel-side lengthwise on the work surface facing the glued edge of the channel-back.

    • 4). Hold the two pieces together, keeping the ends flush, while you nail through the side of the channel-side with the brad nailer into the channel-back.

    • 5). Wipe excess glue off with a damp cloth.

    • 6). Apply glue to the opposite side of the 3/4-by-3/4-by-78-inch channel-back and nail another 3/4-by-2-by-78-inch channel-side to this edge, repeating Steps 3 through 5. This is a completed channel that will hold the end pieces, bamboo and screen support.

    • 7). Repeat Steps 1 through 6 to make the remaining three channels.

    • 8). Use a paintbrush to paint, stain or varnish the channels, end pieces and screen supports. You can leave the bamboo the way it is or finish it. Let dry according to the manufacturer's recommendations before assembling the screen.

    Preparing the Bamboo

    • 1). Unfold the wires on one end of the rolled bamboo fencing using your fingers or the needle-nose pliers. Remove about 3 inches of the bamboo. Depending on the diameter of each cane, this will be about four canes.

    • 2). Make a small loop on the end of each wire so the canes will not fall off, and start pushing some of the bamboo to this end of the wire. Divide the bamboo canes in half, using a measuring tape for accuracy. You will need to move the canes a few at a time, not in one big bunch.

    • 3). Cut all the exposed wires in the center and bend them over to keep the bamboo in place. Repeat Steps 1 through 3 with the second roll of bamboo so you have a total of four sections.

    Assembling the Screen

    • 1). Push one end of a 3/4-by-3-by-36-inch end-piece into the bottom of a channel.

    • 2). Insert the lengthwise edge of a bamboo section into the channel directly above the end piece.

    • 3). Set the screen support into the slot directly above the bamboo.

    • 4). Add another section of bamboo so it meets the screen support.

    • 5). Set the opposite ends of the assembled components into a second channel. You should now have a rectangular-shaped screen panel with most of the components in place.

    • 6). Adjust the bottom of the channels so they are flush with the bottom of the end piece.

    • 7). Use clamps or a helper to hold the channels in place, then nail 1/2 inch from the bottom, and through the side, of the screen into the end piece. Nail 2 inches higher up into the end piece. Repeat on the other side of the screen.

    • 8). Separate the bottom section of bamboo 2 inches from the end piece by gently pulling all the components up the channels. Apply construction adhesive to the top of the end piece, on both sides, that are in each of the channels. Apply enough adhesive to adhere the bamboo to the end piece but not so much that it oozes past the walls of the channel. Repeat this step so there is construction adhesive between the bamboo and each wood piece.

    • 9). Set this panel aside to dry, following the manufacturer's directions, and repeat Steps 1 through 8 to make the second screen.

    • 10

Apply wood filler, with a painter's spatula, to the nail holes and blemishes in the wood. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying time.

    • 11

Sand the wood filler with 120-grit sandpaper and use the same finish to cover the wood filler.

    • 12

Join the two panels by mounting the hinges according to the manufacturer's instructions.
