With the increasing level of sound pollution, it has become a nightmare even to stay indoors without the outside noise entering the house. And worse is when you have a patient or old and aged persons at your home. People simply ignore to maintain the prescribed decibel level.

The other way round is also a problem, meaning that when you switch on the music system or the TV and have put it at a little higher pitch, the sound waves travel through to the outer atmosphere and disturbs others. The situation is worsened when the building premises are in a cluster format with no gap in between two building. Anyway, that doesn't mean you are not going to enjoy your life. But, how to overcome this situation? The only option that can solve this problem is soundproofing your room.

For this you need not spend a fortune. There are many simple ways to reduce the traveling of sound waves.

First of all, if you are in the process of constructing your house, then you need to look into the option of doubling your dry wall. The reason behind this is that, the pores in the normal wall help the waves to travel inward or outward. But if you go for a double wall, the sound gets trapped within the walls. But remember that both these walls need to be of different thickness so that they help in trapping the sound.

In case if it is an already existing wall, you can use double layers of sheetrock. This would really be effective in soundproofing the room.

Another cheap soundproofing method is to use solid wooden doors instead of those hollow stylish ones. Hollowness means ample room for the waves to enter and pass through and solid ones rebound the waves away as soon as it hits the door.

Avoid smooth finishes on your furniture and try out those with coarse surfaces. They really help in absorbing the sound and not letting out the waves out. You can use thick, foamy carpet that will well absorb the sound waves.

And if you have a floating floor, you can try placing acoustic foams in between the two flooring. And for your windows you can try out double glass panes or the vinyl frames. Or try out the quilted materials that come in form of curtains which help in reducing the noise to a great extent.

Cloth tapestries are not only cheap soundproofing methods but also come with a bonus of decorating your walls and not to forget are ceilings. You can use false ceilings and sheet-rocks that would help trap the sound waves. If the ceiling is yet to be built, using resilient metal channels will help drift away the sound and reduce the noise from entering.

Try out the Natural Cotton Fiber Insulation. These are comparatively cheaper than other materials and are quite natural ones that are also safe for your health and are least contaminated. These are easy to install and handle too.

Though these are some of the ideas given for cheap soundproofing but applicability will depend upon the size and type of room.
