The Colorado Trust's Bullying Prevention Initiative

    • The Colorado Trust's Bullying Prevention initiative disperses $9 million in discretionary financial aid to various school and community centers within the state. The goal of the funding is to educate and prevent bullying behavior. Recipients of the award act to correct bullying-related behavior ranging from gossip to physical and verbal attacks, as well as cyber bullying (using the Internet to harass others).

Grantees are selected by the Colorado Trust and must support research regarding bullying prevention through methods such as surveys, case studies and focus groups.

    Halton Foundation Educational Grants

    • The D. F. Halton Foundation allots more than $1.4 million in educational grants to schools in San Miguel County, Colorado and certain counties within North Carolina. The money can go toward several educational pursuits, including bullying prevention. The grant can focus on developing character for at-risk youths and getting students involved in the community and volunteerism. The typical award amount ranges from $1,000 up to $10,000.

    Peace Maker Foundation

    • The Peace Maker Foundation helps connect schools with funding for bullying prevention. In order to qualify, school staff must contact the foundation and fill out a Statement of Interest form. The Peace Maker Foundation evaluates the school's application and the goals of the funding request to see if it aligns with the foundation's mission to create a safe, low-conflict school environment. If so, the foundation will begin raising funds of no less than $500 to help the school prevent violence.

    U.S. Department of Education

    • As part of the Safe and Supportive School program, the U.S. Department of Education provides federal funding of $38.8 million to 11 states, though the program may later extend to more states. The funds are to go to schools that are at the greatest risk for violence. Once the funds are granted, the state determines which schools would benefit most from the money. The states must investigate issues in-depth that relate to school safety and make the results public. The goal is to learn more about school safety and how to improve it. Bullying prevention is now considered a part of a safe learning environment.
