How to Take Great Sports Photos From The Stands

    • 1). Get Close! You will want to get as close to the action as possible. At little league and some high school events, this should be easy. College and pro will be more difficult or impossible.

    • 2). Fast shutter speed! The faster the action, the faster your shutter will need to be. Use a faster lens(lower f number) or bump your iso speed.

    • 3). Front row! Whenever possible, try to sit in the front row to avoid people jumping up or standing in your way. If you are not able to sit in the front row, sit somewhere where noone can sit in front of you.

    • 4). JPEG! Your shutter will drag if you use RAW. Jpeg allows for a faster burst rate which will not slow down the camera as much.

    • 5). Telephoto! It's best to use a telephoto or telephoto zoom lens if possible. Telephoto lenses and telephoto zoom lenses allow you to get in tight and fill the frame with the subject.
