How to Solder a Transducer Cable
- 1). Disconnect the transducer cable at both ends from the device it is installed to. Removal techniques may vary, depending on the type of transducer the cable is attached to. If there are difficulties in disconnecting the transducer cable, consult the owner's manual of the device the cable is attached to seek the proper way to disconnect it.
- 2). Place the transducer cable on a flat table or workbench.
- 3). Use a pair of wire splicers to remove 1/2-inch of the outer cable sheathing near the damaged section of cable.
- 4). Pinpoint the break in the cable's inner wire. Strip the sheathing of these wires back enough to work on. Hand twist the wire ends together first and then plug in the soldering iron and allow it to warm up.
- 5). Hold the tip of the solder just below the section of cable to be repaired. Place the tip of the solder to the soldering iron and allow the solder to melt slightly. Just as it melts, spread the solder over the damaged cable joint and allow the solder to coat it lightly.
- 6). Wrap the repaired wires inside the cable with shrink tubing, turn on the heat gun. Allow the shrink tubing to meld to the repaired wires inside the cable and then wrap the entire repaired section of cable in electrical tape.
