Recipe for Textured Drywall

    • 1). Spread plastic tarps over the floor or ground to protect it from texture splatters. Set a 5-gallon bucket on top of the tarp.

    • 2). Open a 1-gallon tub of joint compound and scoop it all out using a trowel, placing it in the empty bucket. Do not attempt to mix the texture in the joint compound bucket, since it is too small to accommodate the total mixture.

    • 3). Open a 1-gallon can of white or cream paint, which are the standard colors for wall texture. Pour the entire contents into the 5-gallon bucket.

    • 4). Put on safety glasses and install a paddle bit on the end of a power drill. Insert the paddle into the bucket and squeeze the drill trigger slowly to begin mixing the contents.

    • 5). Continue mixing until the paint and joint compound are combined and the consistency looks like a slightly thicker version of the paint.

    • 6). Test the texture by placing a small amount in a drywall sprayer and applying it to a scrap piece of plywood. Add more joint compound if it is runny or add more paint if it is difficult to spray.
