    Removal

    • 1). Position your Oldsmobile on level ground, and safely lift it with the floor jack. Then position the jack stand under the frame, away from your work area, and slowly lower the vehicle onto it.

    • 2). Disconnect the flare nut fitting with a 5/8-inch wrench on the fitting nut and an 11/16-inch wrench on the filter nut. Position the wrenches close together so that you can squeeze them both with one hand. This simplifies the process, allowing maximum force with minimum struggle in the tight quarters under the vehicle. Catch any fuel spills with a drain pan.

    • 3). Release the quick-disconnect fitting by squeezing the two tabs while pushing in on the fuel filter. This may take some maneuvering to accomplish, but you will hear a small click when each tab releases. Pull the line from the filter without letting go of the tabs.

    • 4). Unbolt the fuel filter from the frame, and drop it into the drain pan. When all the fuel has drained out of the filter, remove the bracket from the old filter for use on your new filter.

    Replacement

    • 1). Visually inspect the O-ring seal inside the quick-disconnect fitting for nicks that will cause leaks. Replace the seal as needed.

    • 2). Insert the quick-disconnect end of the new filter into the line. Line up the tabs on the filter, and push the filter until it snaps into place.

    • 3). Inspect the O-ring seal on the end of the steel line flare fitting for nicks. Replace the seal as needed, and reinstall the fitting into the filter.

    • 4). Bolt the filter and bracket to the frame, and double-check the fittings for tightness.

    • 5). Prime the fuel system by turning the ignition key to the "run" position for two seconds and then off. Do this three times, then start the engine.

    • 6). Check the fuel lines for leaks.
