How to Get Water Stains Out of Lizard-Skin Boots

    • 1). Brush any dirt from the boots with a soft brush or damp cloth. Go with the grain of the boots and never try to lift the scales for cleaning.

    • 2). Apply a wax-free leather cleaner made for exotic skins such as lizard to the whole boot, not just the water stain. If the boots are not excessively dirty, clean with a soft cloth dampened with water instead of leather cleaner.

    • 3). Apply a conditioner that is wax- and silicone-free made for exotic leathers to your boots with a clean, soft cloth. Use several thin layers on the boots and let them dry between applications.

    • 4). Buff the boots with a clean, soft, dry cloth. If the water stain is still visible, reapply another coat of the conditioner or apply a very light coat of neutral-colored exotic leather polish to the spot that is stained.

    • 5). Apply a nonsilicone water and stain protector product made for lizard or exotic skin leathers to the boots when they are completely dry. This will help repel water and avoid stains in the future.

    • 6). Maintain your lizard-skin boots with frequent applications of the conditioner. Use several light, even coats and let the boots dry before wearing.
