    • 1). Download the iTunes installer from Apple's website. Install the program by double-clicking the installer and following the prompts. Restart your computer and open the program. A license agreement form should greet you. Upon acceptance of the agreement, you'll see your music library (which is at this point empty).

    • 2). Select "Import Folder" from the "File" menu of the iTunes window. Navigate to the folder where your MP3 files are stored. Select this folder and click "Import." iTunes will organize and import the songs included in the folder into its library. You may perform this operation multiple times if your music is stored in various folders on your computer.

    • 3). Connect the iPod to your computer using the included iPod transfer cable. iTunes should recognize the iPod immediately and open the iPod preference pane.

    • 4). Select "Sync Entire Library" if you wish to transfer every song in your iTunes library to the device. With this option selected, iTunes will update your iPod every time you plug it into the computer, adding and removing songs based on changes made to the library.

    • 5). Select "Update iPod Manually" if you wish to include only specific songs in the syncing of your device. With this option selected, iTunes will not update the iPod automatically. You must instead transfer individual songs by dragging them from the library onto the iPod icon to the left of the screen.

    • 6). Select "Sync To Playlist" if you wish to create a playlist to control the songs synced to your iPod. Create a new playlist or smart playlist by clicking the "+" icon beneath the device list or selecting "New Smart Playlist" from the file menu. Select this playlist in the iPod preference pane and it will sync every time you connect it to the computer based on changes made to the selected playlist.

    • 7). Disconnect your iPod when it is finished syncing by clicking the "Eject" icon next to the iPod device icon. Wait for the iPod to display the "OK to Disconnect" dialog and then unplug the transfer cable.
