Reduce your caffeine intake: Research on whether caffeine can affect your fertility is mixed. As per experts low to moderate caffeine intake (8-ounce mugs of coffee a day) won't affect your chances of getting pregnant adversely. But if you are undergoing in vitro fertilization then its advisable to stop drinking coffee till the time you are not done with the treatment. Fertility specialist Leondires says:

Caffeine constricts blood vessels, slowing blood flow to the uterus and potentially making it harder for an egg to grab hold.

Cut down intake of refined carbs

Lots of refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, and white rice may affect your fertility adversely as they lack essential nutrients which are present in whole grain foods. That's why experts always recommend that for a woman who is trying to get pregnant whole grains are best. The refining process strips down around 17 essential nutrients from grains such as vitamin B and iron.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's you should aim for about 6 ounces of whole grains a day. That's roughly the equivalent of a bowl of cereal for breakfast, a couple of slices of whole wheat sandwich bread at lunch, and a serving of whole wheat pasta for dinner.

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are not only a storehouse of vitamins and minerals but they also provide your body with essential phytochemicals and antioxidants. They also significantly reduce the effects of harmful molecules that are present in the environment. Experts recommend that to boost your chances of conceiving you should and aim for eating about 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of veggies a day.

Eat a lot of iron

Fill your body with sufficient iron reserves before you plan to get pregnant. According to Sam Thatcher, a reproductive endocrinologist, and author of Making a Baby: Everything You Need to Know to Get Pregnant. €Bleeding every month is a constant source of iron depletion,€ Thatcher says.

Once you are pregnant it becomes difficult for you maintain the required level of iron in your body as your baby siphons the minerals from you. So it's always advisable to load your body with sufficient iron before you get pregnant. To make the situation worse too little iron at the start of your pregnancy may put you at a risk of postpartum anemia. It is a condition which affects nearly 27 percent of new mothers.

In postpartum anemia your red blood cell fall below normal and which consequently depletes your energy level.

Foods rich in iron are:

Red meat
Egg yolks
Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
Dried fruit (prunes, raisins)
Iron-enriched cereals and grains (check the labels)
Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
Turkey or chicken giblets
Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans
Liver
Be cautious about foods that contain Listeria

Listeria is a harmful bacteria found in soft cheese and unpasteurized dairy products. Pregnant women are 20 times more prone to get adversely affected from eating Listeria-laced food. Another problem called listeriosis is also associated with intake of food containing Listeria. It is an infection caused by Listeria which can cause miscarriage in the first trimester.

The best way to kill listeria is to heat high-risk foods in the microwave until they're steaming hot. To reduce the growth on leftover food, you should set the refrigerator's temperature at 40 degrees or below. Experts alsoqa advise not to have any food that has been kept in the open for more than two hours.
