Many people dont realize the importance of diet in their health. Certain illnesses like heart disease, diabetes and stroke is often blamed to high cholesterol level cause by unhealthy diet and genes that run in the family. And since we cannot change our genes to avoid high cholesterol but a change in your diet will definitely have a big impact in lowering your cholesterol level.

One effective way of lowering your cholesterol level is by making simple adjustments on the food you consume every day. You can make a cholesterol-lowering meal plan to follow every day or opt for foods which lower cholesterol. Keeping an ideal weight is important in controlling your cholesterol level. A few changes in your diet can lead to a healthy cholesterol level. A decrease in the amount of fat you consume by ten to twenty percent will have significant benefits in your health. Although, there are also some "friendly fats" that can be found in healthy foods which helps in maintaining your cholesterol level.

Some of the few things to consider in your low-cholesterol meal plan are:

1.Replace butter, margarine or other oils use in cooking with olive oil and canola oil.

2.Adding more garlic in your food. Garlic has been known to lower cholesterol level, so add plentiful amount next time in your pasta, soup and vegetables.

3.Increase your intake of fiber-rich fruit and vegetable at every meal and snacks.

4.Consume more vegetable more often as meats are high cholesterol and saturated fats.

5.Be a wise buyer by reading the labels of cookies and crackers you buy and choose those products free from hydrogenated oils.

6.Increase your consumption of oats, flaxseeds, barley, sweet potatoes and carrots as these are all rich in soluble fibers that increase your HDL or good cholesterol level.

7.Foods which lower cholesterol include baked foods. And they are far better than consuming fried foods.

A change in your diet is crucial in your health but you must also take note that you must do it in a correct manner. Many people change their diet incorrectly for a need to slim down but what they do not realize is that low-fat but high-carbohydrate diet will most likely increase their cholesterol level. It is necessary for you to consider looking into the proper diet before deciding to indulge in it. This is just to make sure that you dont compromise your overall wellbeing just to achieve other health goals.
