How to Remove the Starter in a 1987 Dodge Raider
- 1). Pop the hood. Locate the battery, and disconnect the negative terminal on the battery using an open-end wrench. Disconnect the positive terminal next, using the same method.
- 2). Locate the starter on the engine, which you can find by looking down past the engine and locating the it where it is bolted to the transmission. Disconnect the electrical connections on the starter motor using an open-end wrench.
- 3). Unbolt the starter motor from the transmission using the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets. If necessary, use a universal joint between the socket and the extension to reach the right bolts. Then lift the starter motor out of the engine bay.
