Food Allergies - Know the Symptoms

As with many allergies, food allergies can have their own set of symptoms and problems from as minor as slight mouth irritation to severe anaphylaxis.
Here are a few basics about allergies and then a look at specific symptoms of food allergies in particular.
Allergies are an immune response to normally harmless things and allergies to certain foods in particular are an immune response to proteins in various foods.
Some people will suffer with allergies as a lifelong issue while others, such as children, may grow out of them over time.
The most common foods that cause allergic reactions are soy, peanuts, milk, shellfish, tree nuts, eggs, wheat and other fish.
There are of course, variants to what people can be allergic.
Other foods that one can have an allergic reaction to includes spices, food additives and synthetic colorants/preservatives.
Some of the symptoms of a food allergy to look out for if you suspect that you are having issues with a specific food, can include oral irritation.
This can take the form of itching of the gums, swelling or irritation inside the mouth or in the throat.
It is highly important to note that if you are experiencing any kind of difficulty breathing or develop a high pulse rate that you must seek medical attention immediately as this can be highly dangerous.
Other symptoms of food allergies can include shortness of breath, hives (itchy raised bumps on the skin), nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting.
If these symptoms are short lived, make note of what you have eaten and contact your doctor at your convenience.
Symptoms of food allergies can be very minor to life threatening and it is important to seek medical attention to ensure your health.
