It"s Just a Transcription, Not Rocket Science

Doing Transcription Jobs isn't Rocket Science.
So I'm going to come forward and say it, doing transcription jobs isn't a glamorous or exciting way to make money.
But if you do it right, you'll be surprised with how much you'll be able to fatten your wallet on a daily basis.
Now to do that you probably should know what you are doing in the first place, right? Unless you enjoy doing a lot of work for little pay.
It's embarrassing to admit but on my first transcription job I worked at a rate of $4 an hour.
So if you like working for less than minimum wage stop reading right now.
But if you want to get two tips that helped me go from $4 an hour to $20 per hour then read on.
1.
Use headphones.
This was the first mistake I made on my transcriptions.
I had to listen to parts of recordings again and again.
Everything sounded garbled and made my job much more difficult.
Guess why? Computer speakers, while great for listening to music are not so good when doing technical things like.
And when you're doing a transcription, you have to do it to the standards of your clients.
In other words, it SHOULD be perfect.
Then one day my neighbor felt like revving his engine throughout the day while I was trying to work.
Out of sheer necessity (and because I didn't want to get into an argument with him) I plugged in my headphones and found that I hardly even had trouble understanding what people were saying on recordings after that.
Not only that, it helped to minimize the noise from outside.
This one thing I figured out helped me increase my initial speed by 20%...
easily.
In other words it made me more money in the end.
2.
Set up Your Documents.
I've found that if you set up your documents so you don't have to type out the initials for each person, every time they speak it saves you a few seconds each time.
Which may not seem like much but consider this, it helps to save a bit of time.
Especially if you sometimes type in the wrong key.
(Note: This works well if you have a transcription between two people or the setup of people speaking actually follows a specific order.
) As an example here's how you would setup a conversation between Amy Jenkins and Walter Donah.
AJ: WD: AJ: WD: Etc.
Hope this helps you out when working on your own transcriptions.
