Coldsores - How You Can Get Rid Of Coldsores
Is it possible to get rid of those small, painful raised area of small, fluid-filled blisters, usually where the lip joins the surrounding skin, that are known as cold sores? Well yes and no, in the short term you can get rid of the cold sores painful and sometimes embarrassing symptoms.
However, because the cold sore is caused by herpes simplex virus type 1 then unfortunately you will never be able to get rid of your cold sore virus permanently.
But lets focus on the positive side and have a look at herpes and see what we can do to control it.
Herpes By simply mentioning the name Herpes all of a sudden there is a huge social stigma attached to it.
But Herpes Simplex Virus 1 which causes cold sores is not necessarily caused through sexual activity, after all you just have to see how many children get cold sores to see that is the case.
The herpes virus itself hides in the nervous system and generally shows up as a cold sore when your immunity is down for whatever reason.
When you do have an outbreak please remember thatyour cold sore is most contagious from the outbreak of the sore for approximately 10 or at least until even the scabs are no longer visible.
Now bearing in mind how contagious this is please make sure you do not infect other people by direct contact such as kissing, oral sex, and share items (towel, toothbrush, lipstick, spoon, cup, etc).
Symptoms It is possible for you to be infected with HSV and have no symptoms, but when you do start to have symptoms you may find that the primary infection is usually more severe than the recurring infections.
Normally the symptoms are at their most severe in the first 8 hours after the outbreak and can be quite similar to those of other viral infections and may include fever, swollen glands, fatigue and multiple sores in the mouth and on the gums.
Of course as the initial illness runs its course the symptoms will start to ease, but the virus remains in the nerve cells until activated again.
If you think you may have HSV1 but have never had a cold sore then symptoms you should look for are mainly a tingling sensation around the mouth and lip areas.
Medication One of the ways to control cold sores is through medication, especially if you find they are appearing as often as once every two or three months.
In fact if that is the case I would recommend paying your doctor a visit to see what can be done.
And of course while there are no permanent cures for cold sores there aremany medications and remedies that can be useful in their treatment and management.
A lot of the treatments you can get, especially over the counter, are more or less created to relieve the symptoms of cold sores such as pain, itching, and burning.
Although it is possible to get some treatments that possess properties that directly interfere with the herpes virus' ability to form a cold sore.
One thing to bear in mind though is that none of these cold sore medications have been shown to actually shorten the life-span of any of your cold sore stages.
