How to Fix a Showerhead That Shuts Off When Turned On All the Way
- 1). Wrap painter's tape around the shower arm and the base of the showerhead to protect the finishes from the metal pliers.
- 2). Grasp the shower arm attached to the water line, using slip-joint pliers to hold it firmly. Grab the base of the showerhead on the fitting with another pair of slip-joint pliers and turn it counterclockwise. Turn the showerhead until it is loose enough to remove all the way by hand.
- 3). Inspect the interior of the showerhead and look for the restrictor, which is a small disc. In some circumstances when the water is turned all the way on, the restrictor disc will block the showerhead opening, completely restricting the flow of water. Remove the restrictor disc by lifting it out of the head's interior, using a standard screwdriver.
- 4). Wrap the shower arm threads with Teflon tape clockwise to help seal the connection when the showerhead is replaced.
- 5). Twist the head onto the shower head arm by hand until it is snug. Tighten the showerhead, using the two slip-joint pliers as you did when you removed it.
