How to Locate the Fuel Filter on a 1997 Dodge Ram Truck
- 1). Park your Dodge Ram on level ground, pull the parking brake and take the key out of the ignition.
- 2). Locate the fuel tank. The fuel tank is on the side of the truck. The fuel filter is inside the fuel tank, and you will need to detach the whole tank to get to the filter. The fuel filter is a combination of a filter and a pressure regulator.
- 3). Unfasten and remove the studs and retaining nuts on the metal straps that hold the fuel tank together with a flat-head screwdriver. The stud holes are narrow, so it is easier to remove them with a flat-head screwdriver. There are two metal straps supporting the Dodge Ram fuel tank unit.
- 4). Detach the fuel and vapor lines, the wiring harness connector, and the neck of the fuel filler to completely separate the tank unit from the car.
- 5). Locate the fuel filter inside the tank unit. The fuel filter is connected to the fuel module assembly, near the gas gauge sending unit and the fuel pump.
