Video: How to Attach Sink Clips
Video Transcript
Hi, this is Nicholas Iarocci, The Home Source Guy, President and Owner of Source Development Inc., a residential and commercial construction company in Garnerville, New York and this is how to install sink clips. Now stainless steel sinks require clips that have too be installed at the bottom of our sink. Now, this is an older sink that I just took out that I'm gonna reinstall and show you folks how to do it. Now, normally if there is putty around the perimeter, I'm not gonna do that I'm just gonna focus on installing the clips. So what happened is the sink clips very often get deteriorated so what I did was I went out and I bought a plumb pack of new clips. So the actual clip comes in 2 separate pieces, the screw and the actual clip. So the actual clip comes in 2 separate pieces, a screw and the actual clip that gets mounted up against the counter top. So they have to be fed through and don't completely tighten them. Leave them close to the top cause I'm not gonna lower the, the clip to the bottom position and I'll tell you why in a sec. So I'm gonna continue this process for all the clips. Now for our demonstration I'm gonna install the sink on our counter top. Now you might have to do this in a more confined space under the, under the sink base. If at, if at all possible this particular scenario is great. It's comfortable to work at and if you can do it, if you can pull it off I would really suggest doing it. In situations where you have a new counter top and you've got the clearance to mount the sink in the counter top prior to installing it on the sink or cabinet base I would really recommend doing it. So here we go. I'm gonna take our sink. So if you notice after I drill the hole for the clips which is required in a new counter top I shaved off the corners and I did that on purpose because as you're installing the clip you want to be able to rotate it so that there's no interference especially if you're working in confined spaces. I'm just gonna give it a couple of tightens. So I'm gonna repeat this process throughout the whole installation around the whole perimeter of the sink. So these sink clips actually push down on the putty and compress the putty between the, the counter top and the bottom of the sink. You'll notice that I haven't used a screwdriver yet and I'm doing that on purpose as well. So right now I'm just you know applying finger pressure to make sure that the sink gets aligned in the proper position. There's no interference with anything. So once the clips are positioned and they're fully installed around the whole perimeter were gonna slowly tighten our clips and I actually prefer tightening them in a progressive manner and the reason being is that as it's compressing the putty gets spread out. So I'm gonna continue going around the entire sink so if you add too much putty on the installation you know as you're tightening up the, the clips. You might notice that it's giving you a hard time so it's great to have maybe a little helper you know sit down and push the rim down at the same time so the putty exits easily. So after the clips have been installed and the putty's been cleaned I'm gonna make sure that it's sitting flush up against the counter top. And this was how to install sink clips on a stainless steel sink.
