Steel Cut Oatmeal Vs Rolled and Instant Oatmeal

103 13
I've been hearing a lot of hype about steel cut oatmeal from Tony Horton and other fitness and health enthusiats like myself here in the past few months so I decided to give it a try.
Now here is something you have to realize, it doesn't come in a flavored packet and I absolutely hate BLAND oatmeal.
It's definitely important that it tastes a little bit decent for me to try it.
So I went to research a little more and found an all natural sweetener that has been getting a lot of hype as well called stevia.
It comes from a plant and it's less than 4 calories a serving which makes it calorie-free according to the FDA.
I decided to go with the packets instead of the liquid just for convenience.
I made the mistake by putting a whole packet in my oatmeal and boy was it too sweet.
It works really well.
Well that still didn't do it for me so I decided to load up on some fresh strawberries and organic nanners.
Cut about 4 strawberries and half a nanner and it's amazing.
The way the oatmeal warms the banana up is fantastic.
You almost forget your even eating oatmeal.
You can also add grapes and apples or any other fresh fruit you would like to sweeten it with.
Some of the benefits I've noticed from eating steel-cut oatmeal vs.
the regular processed kind are increased exercise performance, more energy, and lower cholesterol.
Now that I have been eating this for breakfast along with a few eggs for breakfast every morning I can definitely tell the mornings I don't eat this and I grab a bowl of cereal instead.
It's unreal.
Steel-cut oats are whole oat kernels cut into small chunks rather than being smashed flat as in oatmeal.
This gives the oats more of a chewy texture and also slows both cooking time and digestion time.
That means that they have a lower glycemic index and are thus preferable for increasing satiety, lowering the insulin response to the meal, and keeping blood sugar levels from peaking.
This also results in delaying hunger so a person is less likely to snack or get overly hungry before the next meal.
If you love oatmeal then I highly suggest trying steel cut oatmeal.
I like the brand McCann's Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal.
It's not that much more expensive than the processed kind and it fills you up even more.
