How to Dilute Spackling Compound
- 1). Open the lid of the spackling compound, inspect the contents and attempt to stir it with a spoon or stick. Spackling that is ready to use will have a smooth consistency similar to peanut butter. Spackling that is dried out will be powdery, thick and hard to stir.
- 2). Add three or four drops of water to the spackling compound. Stir the spackling again and re-examine the consistency.
- 3). Continue to add small amounts of water until the desired consistency is achieved.
