Do you recall when it was the norm to have a record player in every room to listen to your favorite teen idol? There were the kinds with The Partridge Family or perhaps you preferred The Brothers Gibb picture.
Now turn tables are high tech and require an MA just to figure out how to play classic record albums on.
The players now are made with such attention to clarity.
Now record players are not made for the simple listener; they are made for professionals in clubs.
Now the players are made for high precision ability to synchronize songs in separate beats.
Something is gone now when you listen to an old Leadbelly record album on the new luxury players.
With the newer players the precision of screams by The Doors singer Jim Morrison doesn't sound true.
Some music fans will not even trouble with a CD player or any of the high tech machines other than a record player.
Rega turntables are what are preferred for many fans and professionals.
They are a high quality import from the UK that is in high demand.
You can purchase a digital to analog converter and if you want to go all out get an integrated amplifier to join the order.
The days of cut out backs of cereal box records played on ladybug turntables has passed.
But with all this high tech capability to drop a beat or spin a tune in time, where has all the nostalgia gone? Kids still aren't familiar with the black strange looking discs called record albums.
Instead of talking about the history and importance of the record albums, parents would just rather go buy their kids a new MP3 player or iPod.
The only positive thing to this is that a kid can play all the crap that is called music today and you don't have to hear it.
But now with all the fancy stuff the romance or intimacy is now gone.
The high precision Rega turntables are extraordinary, but it loses the wobbliness of the old style of players when listening to an old classic record album.
Who knows; maybe in many decades we as a society will feel the same about CD's and MP3s.
Who knows what the next musical idea could be? Until the next generation of technology comes in, go dust off your old Stooges album and listen to it until your kids complain about it.
