One of the most irritating habits a dog could possibly have is digging, especially under the fence.
There are all kinds of reasons why dogs would exercise this habit and in my experience, the most common one is boredom.
Dogs living outside the house often get bored and lonely, so they start digging as a way of seeking amusement.
Digging sure seems a lot of fun to them but it's a habit that we owners could really do without.
That said you shouldn't put a complete stop to your dog's digging habit.
Remember, digging is a source of amusement for many pooches so there are other ways to solve this problem with compromising their fun.
This article will teach you how to prevent dogs from digging under the fence.
Exercise your dog As I said, many dogs are into digging because they are bored and want to have some fun.
So start doing some exercises with your dog like playing fetch, running and walking.
You could even your start dog on some fun obedience lessons like the long sit, drop on command, retrieving, etc.
Trust me, obedience lessons goes a long way in curbing some of the abrasive habits that dogs tend to make.
Reduce the length of the chain Ensure the chain is not long enough to allow your dog to reach the fence and start making an ugly hole underneath it.
This method works best if you have a fairly spacious yard so that even if the chain is shortened, your dog would still be able to roam about comfortably.
But if he starts digging other spots that you'd also consider inappropriate, then your best bet is to employ the tactic below.
Make a sand pit A sand pit is definitely the best way to go in terms of how to prevent dogs from digging under the fence.
It's inexpensive and easy to maintain.
This is a win-win method because it allows your dog to resume his urge while sparing you the agony of covering every single hole he has made.
Making designated digging spot has done wonders for me and as well as my pooch, Brylow.
Now he has completely stopped making holes under the fence which became entry points for the neighbor's cat to come in and crap all over my yard.
Sand pit works like a charm so give it a shot!
