The Society of Women Engineers: Scholarships
- SWE offers many scholarships to engineering students who are just beginning their college careers. The specific amounts and requirements vary by scholarship. Some freshman scholarships, such as the $7,000-per-year Anne Maureen Whitney Barrow Memorial Scholarship and the $1,500 B.J. Harrod Scholarship, are available to students who are pursuing a degree in any field of engineering. Others, such as the $1,500 Adm. Grace Murray Hopper Scholarship, are limited to students pursuing a degree in a certain field of engineering, such as computer engineering.
- SWE also provides numerous scholarships to female engineering students who are in their sophomore, junior or senior undergraduate years. The $2,500 Dorothy Lemke Howarth Scholarship is open to sophomores only. Funds available to sophomores, juniors and seniors include the $1,500 Men's Auxiliary of the Society of Women Engineers Scholarship and the $1,500 Susan Miszkowicz Memorial Scholarship. Others are limited to students within a specific discipline. The Symantec Scholarship, for example, is available in the amount of $5,000 to a student pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
- Some SWE scholarships are limited to female engineering students pursuing a graduate degree. The Intel Scholarship is one such award, and it is available in the amount of $1,000 to a graduate student in one of several branches of engineering who has a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of 4.0. The $2,000 Booz Allen Hamilton Systems Engineering Scholarship is limited to graduate students who have a GPA of 3.8 or higher. Several other SWE scholarships, such as the Catepillar Inc. Scholarship and the Cummins Scholarship, are available to undergraduate and graduate students.
- The Society of Women Engineers also offers two scholarships specifically for re-entry and nontraditional students, or students who are not entering college directly out of high school. The B.K. Krenzer Memorial Re-entry Scholarship is available in the amount of $2,000. The Olive Lynn Salembier Memorial Re-entry Scholarship is available in the amount of $1,500. Both scholarships are available to re-entry students at either the undergraduate or graduate level in any field of engineering. Neither scholarship has a minimum GPA requirement.
