How to Set up an SBC DSL Connection Manually
- 1). Create a new customer account with SBC DSL. You can order SBC DSL via their website or by calling them directly. When you create an account, they will send you the documentation and equipment necessary to setup your DSL connection including the modem, cables and DSL filters.
- 2). Connect hardware as indicated on the included instructions. You will be installing DSL filters on all the phone lines in use in the home except for the phone jack where your DSL modem will be plugged in. The DSL modem should be located as near to your computer as possible.
- 3). Connect your computer to the DSL modem using the CAT-5 networking cable. This establishes the connection between your computer and SBC.
- 4). Create the connection to SBC DSL to start your registration process. You will first connect to SBC DSL using a username and password that will allow you to get to SBC's DSL registration page. Go to "Start" -- "Settings" -- "Network Connections" and then choose the "Create a New Connection" option. Choose "Connect to the Internet" - "Setup my connection manually" - "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password." Enter "SBC DSL" for the connection name. For the username enter "sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net" (no quotes) and for the password enter "sbcyahooreg" (no quotes). Be sure to uncheck the "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall for this connection" checkbox.
- 5). Register your DSL connection with SBC. Connect to SBC using the connection you just created. Open your Web browser and go to the SBC DSL registration page at: https://sbcreg.sbcglobal.net/. Follow the directions on the website to create your unique login credentials for your SBC DSL connection.
- 6). Change the credentials on your Internet connection from Step 4 to reflect the credentials that you just registered with SBC. Select the "SBC DSL" icon in Network connections that you just created and right-click to edit the connection.
- 7). Connect to SBC DSL by double-clicking the SBC DSL icon you just modified. You should now be connected to SBC DSL.
