How Do I Create a COM Port?
- 1). Click on the start button icon that's represented by a blue sphere with the Windows logo in the center. Click on "Computer" on the right side of the start menu.
- 2). Click on "System Properties" from the menu bar on the top of the window. Click on "Device Manager" from the sidebar menu in the next window.
- 3). Click once on the very top item in the device manager list, and then click on "Action" from the top menu bar and select "Add legacy hardware." The add hardware wizard windows will open.
- 4). Click "Next" on the Add Hardware Wizard window, then select "Install hardware that I manually selected from a list." Click "Next" again.
- 5). Select ports (COM & Lpt) from the list, then click "Next." The next window is a list of drivers provided by various manufacturers.
- 6). Select standard port types form the manufacturer windows. Select a communications port from the model windows, then click "Next" to finish the installation. If you have a driver disk, click on "Have Disk" instead of selecting a driver from the list.
- 1). Click "Start" and "Control Panel" and open "Add New Hardware." Select "Yes" if you have installed the hardware already, then click "Next."
- 2). Select "Add new hardware device" at the bottom of the window, then click "Next."
- 3). Select the "Manually install hardware" from the "Software I choose" option. Select "Ports (com and Lpt)," then click "Next."
- 4). Select the "Manually install hardware" option from the "Software I choose" option. Select "Ports (com and Lpt)," then click "Next."
- 5). Select "Standard port/Communication Port." Continue clicking "Next," then click "Finish."
