How to Do Fractions on the iPhone
- 1). Turn on the iPhone and tap the "Utilities" button. The Utilities menu appears on the bottom of the screen. Tap the "Calculator" icon.
- 2). Turn the iPhone on its side so the scientific buttons are visible if you need to use advanced calculator functions such as "Pi" or "Sine," etc.
- 3). Enter the number on the bottom of the fraction.
- 4). Tap the "1/x" key If the top number in the fraction is a "1." Otherwise skip to Step 5. For example, if the fraction is "1/2," tap "2," then tap the "1/x" key. The calculator will display "0.5."
- 5). Tap the "Division Symbol" key, then enter the top number of the fraction. Tap the "=" key. This tells the calculator to divide the bottom number by the top number, converting the fraction into a decimal number. For example, the fraction "3/4" means "4" divided by "3," which is "0.75."
- 1). Examine the equation with fractions you need to solve. For example, "3/4 + 7 - 1/2 = ?" contains two fractions and one whole number.
- 2). Enter the equation into the calculator beginning from the left and working to the right, tapping the "Division" key each time you encounter a "/" in the fraction. In the above example, you would tap "3," "Divide," "4," "Plus", "7", "Minus," "1," Divide," "2," then the "Equal" key. The resulting number is "7.25"
- 3). Notice that the calculator gives priority to the division sign, just as it would with the multiplication sign, when working on an equation.
- 4). Tap the "M+" key to add a fraction to the calculator's memory if you need to use it later. The "MR" key is highlighted to show there is a number in memory. Tap the "MR" key when the number is needed again to display that number.
