How to Use Windows Media Center as a DVR
- 1). Insert the TV tuner installation disc into the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray disc drive. Follow the installation prompts.
- 2). Insert the USB plug on the TV tuner into a USB port on the computer when prompted by the installation software.
- 3). Plug the cable box or TV to the connected TV tuner with a coaxial cable. Connect one end of the coaxial cable into the corresponding connection on the connected tuner. Connect the other end of the cable into the "Cable/Signal/TV Out" port on the rear of the cable box or television. Screw the coaxial connector on one end of the coaxial cable to the corresponding connection on the external TV tuner.
- 1). Open Windows Media Center from the desktop "Start" menu.
- 2). Hit the downward facing arrow on the bottom of the interface to navigate to "Tasks" on the main menu. This arrow is not obvious. You must hover the mouse below the current menu options for the arrow to appear.
- 3). Choose "Settings."
- 4). Select "TV" and choose "Set Up a TV Signal."
- 5). Confirm the TV signal's region when prompted. Follow any additional prompts. Windows Media Center will use the TV tuner to scan for signals. When the scan is complete, select for download an updated "Guide" that will display the programming available for the next two weeks.
- 1). Schedule a TV recording. Choose "TV" from the main menu in Windows Media Center. Select the "Guide" or "Search" option. Right-click on a program listed in the Guide, or enter keywords to search for a program. Right-click on the correct result. Select "Record" from the drop-down menu.
- 2). Record a live program. Choose the "TV" option from the main menu, and further select "Live TV." Find a channel or network, select from the list of current live programming or enter a search term in the corresponding field. Select the show of choice. The show will begin to play on the computer. Hit the "Record" button.
- 3). Record a certain channel at a certain time, regardless of the programming content. Select "TV" and choose "Recorded TV." Hit "Add Recording" and then choose the "Channel and Time" option. Manually enter the channel you want to record. Press the "+" and "-" icons to specify how many days the DVR should record content on this channel at this time. Enter a time to begin and stop recording in the corresponding fields. Enter how long you would like the recorded content to be saved under "Upkeep." Press "Record."
