How to Install New Shower Fixtures
- 1). Remove the showerhead you wish to replace. You may be able to screw it off by hand or you may need to use locking pliers. When using locking pliers, place a rag underneath over the shower to prevent damage to the metal.
- 2). Use a toothbrush or other hard bristle brush to remove the white plumber's tape from the pipe that extends out of the wall.
- 3). Take the new plumber's tape and wind the tape around the threads of the pipe coming out of the wall. Wind it around the pipe two to three times. The tape will fill in the gaps between the threads of the pipe and the threads of the showerhead, preventing water leakage.
- 4). Attach your new showerhead to the pipe. Tighten as tight as you can by hand. You may need to use the locking pliers to tighten the showerhead more than what you can do by hand. When using pliers, place a rag around the metal of the new showerhead to prevent damage.
- 5). Turn the water on. If you see leaking coming from the base of the showerhead, use the locking pliers and tighten the fitting more. If there is still leakage, remove the showerhead, apply additional two to three layers of plumbers tape and reattach the showerhead.
