How to Make a Flower Wreath
- 1). Start your silk flower wreath project with a Styrofoam wreath base. These come in different sizes, as well as some different shapes, other than the traditional round base, such as hearts.
- 2). Decide on the color scheme for your flower wreath. An all over spring color pallet will, of course, go with any front porch décor. However, you might want to pick specific colors, matching your house paint. For example, if your house is white with blue trim, an attractive wreath might be blue, white and yellow.
- 3). Make and attach the hanger first. You can purchase wreath hangers at craft stores and florists. However, you can also make a simple wire hanger by twisting a loop at the top of some medium gage wire, about 2 feet long. Do this by folding the wire in half and then twisting a couple of inches below the fold. Straddle the wreath with the two bottom wire ends and pull them down so the loop fits at the top or even towards the back of the wreath. Twist the two wire ends to the inside hole of the wreath, until it is secure. Clip off excess wire to a couple of inches and bend it towards the back of the wreath.
- 4). Cover the Styrofoam wreath with floral moss. Use greening pins (floral pins), pushed in through the moss and wreath base to adhere the moss.
- 5). Use additional silk greenery for the background of your floral wreath. Cut the greenery pieces in 7-inch lengths. Attach them, all going in the same direction. If the stems are not stiff enough to stick into the foam wreath base, use a piece of medium weight wire wrapped in floral tape, around the greenery stem.
- 6). Attach the flowers into the wreath base. If you are using more than one variety of flower, start with the largest ones and attach all of those first. Wrap them as you did the greenery in Step 5, if necessary. Place them evenly around the wreath. Then, work in the medium sized flowers and, finally, the smallest flowers.
- 7). Add a bow or other trinkets to adorn your wreath and personalize it.
