How to Stop Ribbon Tips From Fraying With Heat
- 1). Get the cut ends of the ribbon close to the flame of a lighter, match or candle. Don't place the ends in the flame; just get them close enough to melt them. Keep the ends near the flame for a second or two until they melt slightly.
- 2). Heat up a tool that has a hot surface, such as a glue gun, wood burning tool or curling iron.
- 3). Run the cut ends of the ribbon back and forth over the hot surface of the tool until they melt enough to seal the ends. Run the ends of the ribbon over the metal tip of the glue gun if that is the tool you are using. Draw across the cut ends of the ribbon with the tip of the wood burning tool with the ribbon placed on a cookie sheet if using a wood burning tool.
- 4). Let the ends of the ribbon cool for a minute before doing anything else with the ribbon to prevent burns.
