How to Make Your Own Jewelry Box With Kid's Plaster
- 1). First you need to create an exact model of your desired jewelry box out of modeling clay. Model the outside of the main body of your box only. Include any etchings or designs you would like.
- 2). Prepare your plaster according to the instructions on the packaging. Be sure to use a container that you don't mind ruining. Using a paintbrush or your hands, heavily plaster the outside of your clay model, open side down. Coat the bottom well and as evenly as possible so that your jewelry box sits evenly. Allow the plaster to dry completely. For a more ornate, advanced option, try embedding seashells or plastic jewels into the plaster.
- 3). Remove the modeling clay from the inside of your plaster box. Reform the clay to create models of tiny shelves and hooks that you would like to include inside your jewelry box. Plaster them heavily and allow them to dry. When dried, glue them to the inside of your box according to your preference.
- 4). Create a lid for your jewelry box. You can use a cookie or cake mold or a medium-sized dinner plate to create your desired shape. Pour the liquid plaster, or lay the plaster strips, into the mold and allow it to dry. You might choose to insert a small drawer knob or other hard item into the center of the plaster before it dries to later serve as a handle with which to lift your jewelry box lid.
- 5). Using paint or other decorative craft items, decorate the inside and outside of your jewelry box and its lid to your liking. Allow it to dry completely before placing any jewelry in it.
