How to Remove the Back of a La-Z-Boy Recliner
- 1). Move to the rear of the recliner and locate the material cover on the seat back. There will be Velcro pads holding the back’s material to the lower portion of the base frame. Carefully pull the material up that is attached to the back of the chair frame to expose the inside.
- 2). Locate the black metal brackets on both the left and right side that connect the chair back to the base frame. Make sure that the recliner is in its upright position, with the footrest retracted into the chair. Locate the locking levers on the left and right side brackets (you may need to tip the chair slightly forward to gain a better view).
- 3). Pry the locking levers upward on both right and left side brackets with a flat head screwdriver. The locking levers will point horizontally when fully disengaged. Grasp the sides of the chair back and pull it upward from the base.
