Cheap Fire Pits

105 17
There are two options how to get yourself a cheap fire pit. Your first option is to buy one at a very cheap price, and in order to succeed in doing so, you need to know where to shop. At the end of this article I will tell you where you can find the best online deals. Your second option is a much more fun, challenging and possibly an even cheaper option; you make it yourself.

Before we discuss the guidelines for making a fire pit yourself, let me add that I personally found making my own fire pit it a lot of work, and until I found all the necessary materials, I was spending much more money than if I would have bought one. Also, I didn't find all the materials in the hardware store near to my holiday home and it was very time-consuming putting everything together.

Another thing to consider is, that if you do not own your summer home, but rather are renting a house or bungalow, it is unlikely that your landlord will be willing to let you dig up pits in the garden.

What you Need to Know About Making your own Cheap Fire Pit

If you do choose this option, and make it yourself, you'll have to make sure that you know exactly what you are doing. It's imperative that you follow all the security guidelines and have everything thought out before you start. This will prevent the possible danger of your fire getting out of hand.

In order to make it, you'll need about 30 cinder blocks and a metal grill grate. You'll also need a good shovel, gravel, small pieces of dry wood (kindling) and lava rock. These can all be bought in most hardware stores. Then follow the following 4 guidelines.

1. Pick an appropriate place for your pit. It should be a good distance from garden sheds, wooden fences and other structures. It should be within reach of a garden hose.

2. Use a shovel to dig out the soil to a depth of about one foot. Then, arrange the cinder blocks in the shape you want for your pit. The most popular shape is a circle. Place the cinder blocks with the holes facing up, around the boundary of the dug out area. The cinder blocks must be arranged so that the bottom edges of each are touching one another. Then you'll need another round of cinder blocks on top of the first so that the gaps of the first layer are covered by the second. It's best to only have two layers of cinder blocks; anything higher will make it very hard for you to look after the fire.

3. Now that the walls are up, cover the ground of the pit with gravel. Then fill the inside of your pit over half way up with lava rock. Place kindling on top of the lava rock, making sure the wood is well inside the fire pit.

4. Lay a metal grill grate on top of the walls of your fire pit, making sure it fits well.

Finding cheap fire pits

As I pointed out earlier, many may find the option of making a fire pit themselves too challenging.

Although you can find them in most garden stores, my research has taught me that this probably isn't the best way to find cheap prices. The best method to find cheap prices is online. This is also more tempting as one can shop in the comfort of their own home and the goods are delivered to your front door.
