How to Get Rid of Hair Algae in a Saltwater Aquarium
- 1). Remove as much of the hair algae as possible with your hands. Introduce sea creatures into the aquarium that feed primarily on algae. Some of the most suitable ones are green sea urchin, yellow tang fish, snails and hermit crabs.
- 2). Limit the amount of nutrients in your saltwater aquarium. Feed your fish just enough food to keep them healthy, as an overabundance of nutrients causes hair algae to grow. Another option is to feed your fish live food.
- 3). Algae thrives on light, so reduce the amount of light in your aquarium to suppress hair algae's growth. Place the aquarium in an area where there is limited sunlight.
