How to Soften a Sea Sponge With Bleach
- 1). Rinse the sea sponge thoroughly with clean, cold water to dislodge any dirt or sea particles that are stuck in the sponge cells. If the sponge is new, just rinse it until you can squeeze the water out.
- 2). Pour ½ cup of bleach into a bucket and add 1 gallon of plain water to it. If you need more solution than this, just maintain the same ratio of bleach to water.
- 3). Drop the rinsed sponge into the solution and let the sponge soak in it. Stir the sponge around the solution to ensure even exposure.
- 4). Lift the sea sponge out of the solution after five minutes. Squeeze out the sponge to check if it is as soft as you want.
- 5). Return the sponge to the solution and check it every few minutes until you are happy with the texture.
- 6). Rinse the softened sponge thoroughly with clean water to remove any traces of the bleach. Squeeze out the sponge and rinse it again until it runs out clear.
