Great Places to Eat in Rome

105 8
Italy is a haven for food lovers and Rome is no exception; however, like most cities, it is advisable to do some research into the best restaurants to find the most authentic food whilst in the city. Your Fiumicino airport transfers may take you past some wonderful local spots to take note of. Here are just a few recommendations.

Home Cooking in the City

The Italian saying €just like Mama makes' is said for a reason, as there is nothing better than authentic Italian cooking. Finding the best places to eat it can be a quest for any visitor to Rome, however. The family run La Tavernaccia will give you great authentic home cooking and is popular with locals, which is always a good sign. The chaotic atmosphere will make for a lively evening, and starting with a wonderful garlic bruschetta will get your meal off to an excellent start. It's a great place to try the lasagne, but all the dishes are excellent and the desserts are spectacular.

The area of Trastavere is great for restaurants and bars and you will find Roma Sparita in one of its beautiful piazzas. Here you can eat great food alfresco in summer, surrounded by the uniquely coloured buildings of Rome. The restaurant serves simple Roman food, and among the dishes you will find cacao e pepe pasta, which is made from pecorino cheese. For seafood lovers, a must try is the cozze alla marinara, a great dish of mussels in garlic, chilli pepper and tomato.

Another great restaurant to try in Trastavere is Da Enzo, which is in the peaceful Eastern side of Trastevere. The emphasis here is on the ingredients and all the wine, cheese, eggs and meat served are 100% organic. It is particularly known for its baccala and stuffed zucchini blossoms.

Home Cooking Outside the City

You may want to venture outside the centre of Rome to explore the surrounding area, and you may spot potential venues on your Fiumicino airport transfers. A great place to get some fresh air is Vascello, which is in the Monteverde area. It's high up so there will be wonderfully refreshing breezes to fan your outside table. The owners are Sardinian, so the food is a good example of that particular cuisine, with ravioli with ricotta and lemon and spaghetti with cured fish roe. They also serve great carbonara and matriciana sauces.

The Hostaria Antica Roma is to be found on the Appian Way and is a great place to have lunch after a sobering visit to the famous catacombs. It has a beautiful shaded courtyard and was actually a mausoleum itself 2,000 years ago; it is constructed around a monument that was built for freed slaves of the Emperor Augustus. Fresh fish is served every day and the antipasto includes boar sausages and sharp and delicious pecorino cheese. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and it is an all-round wonderful dining experience. You really will be spoilt for choice with the extensive menu.

Eating in Rome will be a wonderful experience if you take the time to look at the possibilities. Your Fiumicino airport transfers can deliver you to a holiday filled with delicious and authentic dining experiences.
