How to Use a Chinese Fan
- 1). Find two Chinese fans. The fan can be made out of any kind of materials. Some of the most common are made out of silk and feathers.
- 2). Hold one fan in each hand. Hold the arms out to each side, and raise each of the fans above the head, and lower both back down to the side. Flutter the fans from side to side as they are being raised and lowered. Repeat the steps of fluttering the fans throughout the choreography of the dance.
- 3). Bring both arms in front of the body. Count to eight or wait until the eighth count of the music, and open and close both of the fans. Open the fans by twisting the wrist out and in a continuous motion. Repeat the opening and closing of the fans a second time, again on the eighth count of the music.
- 4). Bend the upper body at the waist to either the left or right side, and raise one arm above the head. Turn the opposite arm to one side. Reverse the arms, raising the other arm above the head and the opposite one to the side. Move the fans in the fluttering motion throughout the dance.
- 5). Lower both of the arms to the side after repeating the arm changes two to three times. Bend both of the knees straight down as if bending down to retrieve an object.
- 6). Push both of the arms straight out in front of the body, and hold the fans close to each other. Move up and down, bending at the knees at the same time. Turn at the waist left and right during the up and down motion.
- 7). Lift the arms over the head, and cross the left fan in front of the right fan. Hold the position for two to three seconds. Begin the dance again starting at the first step.
