Differences in Assyrian and Babylonian

104 58

    Climate

    • The climate of Assyria was much better than the Babylonian climate because of the location. Assyria was located to the north of Babylonia and was in a highland region. The slightly higher elevation and northern position resulted in better weather conditions for Assyria.

    Religion

    • Assyria and Babylonia had similar religions. In fact, the religions were almost identical because most of the gods worshiped in the religion were the same. The main difference between the Assyrian and Babylonian religions was the leader of the gods. Assyria maintained that Assur, the god named after their capital city, was the chief god while Babylonia's was Merodach. According to Theophilus G. Pinches, LL.D., lecturer at University College in London, the Babylonians had a tendency toward a monotheistic belief, but their belief did not become absolute and only a few maintained their belief of only one god.

    Country Type

    • The country type of Babylonia and Assyria was different. Assyria was primarily militaristic, putting an emphasis on the country's military. Babylonia, on the other hand, was primarily agricultural and enterprising. Babylonia put an emphasis on trade and farming as opposed to the military tendencies of its northern neighbor.

    Kings

    • The kings were very different between the two countries. The Assyrian kings were military leaders, typically taking a position as a general who led armies. The Babylonia kings were from the priesthood of the country and were leaders in the religion.
