How to Clean the Motor on a Singer 201 Machine
- 1). Unplug the Singer 201 sewing machine.
- 2). Open the front cabinet door. The motor will be visible. Lift the foot by lifting the lever on the right-hand side. Remove the needle by unscrewing the screw or clamp that holds the needle in place. Slide the bobbin drawer cover open to expose the bobbin. Lift up on the bobbin for removal.
- 3). Shake up a container of canned air. Spray the motor and bobbin-holding compartment with the canned air. Turn the knob on the side of the sewing machine so the parts move. This will allow you to fully clean dust and debris from the entire bobbin holding compartment and motor surface.
- 4). Add 1 to 2 drops of sewing machine oil onto the moving parts of the motor. Turn the knob as needed to identify and reach moving parts. This will also help the oil set into the motor parts.
- 5). Place the bobbin back in the bobbin-holding compartment. Insert the needle into the sewing machine and screw it back into place.
