Flowering Trumpet Vine

104 18

    Vines

    • Flowering trumpet vines grow upwards, climbing and attaching to objects using aerial rootlets. This climbing can create nice background screens when grown on lattice or fencing. Glossy green leaves cover the vines and in late summer or early fall long spindle-shaped seed pods develop.

    Blooms

    • Trumpet vines produce funnel-shaped flowers with lobed petals and grow to 3 inches long. The vine is named for these trumpet-like flowers. Blooms most commonly come in orange, but blooms can also be easily found in yellows or reds. Plants will be free flowering as early as the first growing season.

    Location

    • The flowering trumpet vine grows best in the full sun. Full sun not only encourages faster growth, but can also lengthen the flowering time into the fall season. Soil should have good drainage.

    Care

    • Once the vine has become established it requires little care. It will need pruning from time to time to keep it from taking over other objects. Seed pods can be removed to help control the spread of other vines in the yard.
