    • 1). Write down the total gallons of water that the swimming pool can hold. Obtain this number from the manual that comes with an above-ground pool or from the dealer who installed the in-ground pool for you.

    • 2). Write down the amount of algaecide that was supposed to be put in the pool, using the information on the bag, which is based on how many gallons of water there are in the pool. Subtract this number from the actual amount of algaecide that was placed in the pool. Circle this number.

    • 3). Look at the chart that is on the bag of mineral treatment to see how much is needed to stabilize the heavy metal content of the pool, based on the total gallons of water in the pool that was written down. Multiply this number by the algaecide number that was written down to arrive at the correct amount of mineral treatment needed.

    • 4). Turn the pool pump on; the power switch for the pool pump typically is found on the electrical control box that is inside a shed at one end of the pool.

    • 5). Stand at the end of the pool where the intake grille on the inside wall of the pool is located. Let 10 minutes pass. Drop the bags of mineral treatment into the water, one after the other. Let the pump run for at least 12 hours before turning it off.
