Cheap Motorcycle Insurance In Four Easy Steps

103 31
There are a number of things to consider when looking for cheap motorcycle insurance and one of the most important ones is comparison shopping online.
But beyond doing the comparison shopping and getting some good quotes, there are four simple steps that you should always consider that are important to getting the best quote possible.
1 - What bike do you ride? - The make and model that you choose for your ride will have a huge impact on how much you pay for insurance.
For example, in some jurisdictions the size of the engine will determine the cost of insurance.
Anything over 750cc usually comes with a higher insurance costs.
Likewise, performance models or sports bikes usually have higher premiums.
And that's because the statistics show that drivers that favor these types of bikes tend to have more accidents and therefore insurance companies have to charge higher rates.
Some models also tend to be at higher risk of being stolen.
New, expensive or high-performance bikes usually fall into this category.
Ride an old clunker under 750cc and you can get some great deals.
2 - How's your driving record? - Are you an experienced rider with a clean driving record then you will most likely get much better rates then a teenage rider on their first bike with a string of speeding tickets to their name.
Once again, statistics prove out that inexperienced riders tend to have more accidents than experienced drivers and your driving record is a real indicator of the likelihood that you will be involved in an accident.
Being an inexperienced rider is a problem because only time on the bike will change that, however, there are things you can do to counter your inexperience.
The best one is to show the insurance companies that you are going to be the best rider you can be by taking an accredited motorcycle training course.
Make sure it's an accredited training course and that you get proof of successful completion to send to your insurance company.
3 - Where do you store your bike? - Bikes can be an easy target for thieves so where you park your bike and what anti-theft devices you have can be an important factor in getting some cheap motorcycle insurance.
Let your insurance company know that you store your bike in a locked garage every night.
Let them know that you've installed a high-end electronic anti-theft device that will zap any approaching thief.
Let them know that you sleep with your bike.
Whatever you can provide them that will reduce the risk of theft or damage can lead to reduced rates.
4 - How many miles do you ride in a season? The more you ride the higher your premiums will be and the less you ride the more opportunity you have to reduce your rates.
If you can demonstrate consistently low mileage some insurers might give you a break.
But a word of caution.
Go over the set limit and you may void your insurance coverage.
While there are many more factors that can contribute to higher or lower rates, these four simple steps, if followed, can certainly help you on the way to getting some cheap motorcycle insurance.
