How to Format a PDF Form
- 1). In Adobe Acrobat, determine whether you want to create an interactive from a blank page and add new content or convert an existing document, such as a PDF, Word document or Adobe InDesign document. To create one from scratch, click "File, Create PDF, From Blank Page." Click "Forms, Start Form Wizard" to begin creating the form. Otherwise, go directly to the Start Form Wizard and select "An Existing Electronic Document." Follow the prompts to set up the new form.
- 2). Click the "Forms" menu and select "Add or Edit Fields." Under "Forms," click "Form Tools" to select a tool to begin with. Choose from a variety of tools, all of which provide a different type of interactive form field, such as a text field, check box, list or selection button.
- 3). Click a point on the page where you want to enter a new field. By clicking, a form field will automatically create the default size field. Drag a rectangle to create a custom-size field.
- 4). Enter a name for the field in the "Field Name" box. Click "Show All Properties" to make modifications to the field in the Properties dialog box.
- 5). Format the form fields by making adjustments to the layout of the form. For instance, select the "Select Object" tool to resize a form field. Select a form field and drag one of its box handles to change the size. Hold "Shift" while doing this in order to keep the box proportionate to its current size.
- 6). Change the size of several form fields to match one form field. To do so, select the form fields you want to resize. Right-click the field you want the other field to match to, and select "Set Fields to Same Size." Select either "Height, Width or Both" to specify the parameters.
- 7). Align form fields by selecting two or more. Right-click one field to which you want to align the others. Select "Align." Make a selection to align the fields. For instance, choose "Align Left" to align a column of fields. You can choose to align along an edge or a center axis of a field.
- 8). Arrange form fields on a grid. Under "View," select "Grid." Select "Snap to Grid" under "View" to have the form fields snap to a grid line. This will ensure exact positioning and spacing of the form fields.
