Making a Name for Yourself As a Public Speaker

103 8
The road to being a successful public speaker isn't that different from that of those who are trying to catch a break as either an actor or a musician.
It's more like a musician, really, considering the fact that both an aspiring public speaker and musical artist have to hone their crafts doing random appearances in wherever venue they can land a gig in whereas an aspiring actor simply has to take classes and take a bunch of auditions.
At any rate, if you're aiming for getting some exposure and taking off on your public speaking career, you can do a few things.
First of all, you have to get your name out on the internet.
Voice actors, musicians, and even aspiring producers have their own websites showcasing their portfolios and whatnot.
Most times, these sites aren't even visited by fans, unless the people's names start appearing on the end credits of various forms of media.
There are a lot of advantages to having your own website.
In addition to putting up your profile and bio, you can put a blog in there.
The blog will be an excellent way to showcase your expertise on subject matters that you plan to cover in your public speaking career.
It can also become your means of writing practice.
As a public speaker, aspiring or otherwise, you know how important writing is for your career.
Once you your website all set up, it's time to market yourself.
Do all of the social media that you can.
Start networking with various people in LinkedIn, for instance.
Talk to people who know other people that may give you your long-sought break.
The internet is a great way to reach audiences from all over the world.
Meanwhile, try to land various gigs locally.
Every year there are graduations, seminars, conventions, and the likes where you can start your career.
If possible, record your speeches, and upload those videos on to YouTube or the website that you've created.
The better your speeches go, the more reputation you will build.
People will start looking for you online.
Build your reputation from there, and at some point you will eventually be hired for a non-local event where the inviters will even pay for your travel fees.
It looks so simple on theory doesn't it? That's because it is, but at the same time it isn't.
Public speaking isn't considered a real profession, and you will be waiting a long time to finally get to a status that you always wanted to be.
As long as you can stay at it and are willing to work really hard, you will be fine.
