How to Replace the Floating Plug in a Dishwasher
- 1). Turn off the circuit breaker powering your dishwasher at the main electrical panel in your basement, garage, laundry or hallway.
- 2). Stoop down close to the floor and locate the kick plate on your dishwasher. This plate is below the door and about 1/2 inch off the floor.
- 3). Remove the kick plate screws with a screwdriver and place the screws in your pocket so you do not step on them or loose them as you work.
- 4). Find the float plug or float switch with two wires going to the component. Disconnect the wires by hand or use pliers. Unfasten the retaining screws holding the float plug in place with your screwdriver or snap off the retaining ring with pliers or by hand.
- 5). Pull the old float switch out of the dishwasher and discard it.
- 6). Set the new float plug into place, then replace the retaining screws or snap the retaining clip on the new switch. Plug the wires into the float plug, then replace the kick plate.
- 7). Turn the dedicated circuit breaker back on and use your dishwasher as normal.
