How to Repair a Washing Machine Drain Hose

104 166
    • 1). Loosen the clamp holding the drain hose in place. Two types of clamps secure the drain pipe to the washing machine and they require different methods of removal. On one, squeeze the handles together and pull away from the dryer to remove it. For the other, fit a flat-head screwdriver into the slot and turn it counterclockwise until the clamp is loose, then pull the clamp away from the washing machine.

    • 2). Twist and shake the drain pipe loose from the washing machine's connection pipe. The drain hose will be tightly fitted around the machine's connection pipe. Once the drain hose is removed from the washing machine, remove the other end of the hose from the drain pipe. The other end of the hose will not require the clamps loosened as it simply lies in the drain hole.

    • 3). Fit a clamp around the end of the new drain hose and place the end of the drain hose around the connector pipe. Position the clamp in place over both the drain hose and the connector pipe and tighten it, using the corresponding method for your type of clamp. For a squeeze clamp, squeeze the two ends together, place the clamp and release. For a screw-type clamp, place the clamp and screw it clockwise. Place the other end of the drain hose in the drain pipe.
