How to Organize Camp Gear
- 1). Place all your gear in one place. Clear a space, and then put all the items in the middle so you can work through the pile. Organize the equipment into separate piles for items, such as sleeping bags and cooking utensils.
- 2). Wash the tents, saucepans, clothing, and sleeping bags. Dry the items completely before starting to repack them.
- 3). Brush mud and other debris off objects that can't be washed, such as a compass or gas lantern. Use a toothbrush to get in between small cracks and use a damp cloth to wipe the surfaces clean.
- 4). Pack up the tent in the tent bag. Make sure you have all the tent poles and pegs. Roll the tent tightly in the bag, and then zip it up to keep the tent secure.
- 5). Wash and air dry sleeping bags, and then put back into their covers. Then, gather all the sleeping gear and secure it in a sealable plastic container. Make sure you place air mats on the bottom and add pillows and sleeping bags on top.
- 6). Check the condition of the gas lanterns by turning them off and on to see that they operate correctly. Repair or service at a camping store if necessary.
- 7). Scrub the stove and test it. Repack it in the carrying case. Place the stove and lantern in another plastic container and put the lid on, so that the tub is secure. Use an air and water tight container to protect the equipment.
- 8). Place any remaining items, such as cutlery, into plastic containers for protection.
