Can You Transplant Day Lilies Once They Are Blooming During the Summer?

104 8

    Timing

    • According to Ollalie Daylily Gardens, daylilies can transplant any time of year, including during the growing season. Gardeners move blooming day lilies with a couple of specific steps, and must take care not to break or damage the foliage or blooms during the transplant.

    New Site

    • One of the most important aspects of a transplant at any time is to prepare the new site beforehand. Day lilies require full sun all day for full blooming, but will grow in some shade. The plants do best in areas that get immediate, complete drainage, in rich, loose soil.

    Considerations

    • Although day lilies will continue to bloom after a transplant, it's a good idea to transplant the plants in spring or fall, to give them plenty of time to establish in their new locale before the stress of blooming.
